Allow partial ballots

Allows voters to leave some candidates unranked. Unranked candidates are treated as below all ranked ones. If enabled, truncated ballots are allowed: voters may rank only some candidates; unranked candidates are treated as below all ranked candidates and tied with each other. If disabled, only fully ranked ballots are accepted. Recommended when the candidate list is large.

Minimum candidates to rank

When partial ballots are allowed, each voter must rank at least this many candidates.

Allow equal ranks in final result

Allows shared places in the results (e.g., two candidates tied for 2nd). The selected algorithm and cascade still apply; Final tie-break becomes optional. If enabled, ties are permitted: the final output may contain tied groups. The selected algorithm and tie-break cascade still run and may reduce ties; Final tie-break is optional. If disabled, the system enforces a strict ranking and requires Final tie-break as the last method.

Show rank numbers while voting

A visual aid that helps new voters avoid ranking mistakes. It does not affect vote counting or the final results.

Available ranks count

Sets how many distinct rank levels are available when equal ranks are enabled. Any number keeps full ranking depth. Tier list uses a typical number of tiers. A numeric value (2-10) limits the number of rank levels and groups candidates into that many levels while preserving their relative order.

Algorithm & Tie-Breaking

For living polls on the free plan, Basic uses Borda (avg for unranked) and a deterministic tie-break cascade to reduce recalculation load. The result is always a strict ranking. Borda count · Tie-breaking in voting

'Fixed period' sets a start and end date; results are computed once at the end. 'Living poll' has no end date; results update periodically. 'Fixed period' defines the voting window: participation closes at the end time and results are finalized. 'Living poll' has no end date and fits long-running polls where results are periodically updated as new votes arrive.

For a fixed period: set the start and end date/time. If the start is in the past, voting begins immediately after publishing. For a fixed period: sets opening and closing times for participants. If the start is in the past, the system warns and voting begins immediately after publishing. Plan the window so invitations/links reach participants in time.

Recalculation period

How often to recalculate results for an ongoing poll. More often = fresher results but higher load and cost; less often = lower load and cost. Recalculation periodically recomputes results from votes already submitted; the votes themselves do not change. More frequent recalculation keeps results more up to date but increases system load and cost. Choose an interval based on expected activity and required timeliness of results.

Vote changes

Allow updating vote

Allows participants to change their vote after submitting. In "Only when invited" mode, updates are possible only after the owner announces a revote round. If enabled, participants may re-vote and only their latest submission is counted. "Only when invited" creates owner-triggered revote rounds where each participant can submit one more ballot per announced round. Note: this governance model can reduce trust in neutrality, so clearly disclose revote announcements and rationale.

Warning: owner-triggered revote rounds can reduce trust if not transparently explained to participants.

Track vote history

Stores a history of vote changes so you can see how preferences evolved. History visibility is configured separately. When enabled, all vote versions are stored with timestamps (change log). The organizer can always access it; it is published only if history visibility is enabled. Useful for transparency and analysis, but increases stored data.

Allow new candidate suggestions

Participants can propose new candidates during voting. Suggestions are moderated and sent to the poll owner; accepted suggestions are applied later as a new round, not immediately.

Allow removal suggestions

Participants can suggest removing existing candidates with a reason. Suggestions are moderated and reviewed by the owner; accepted removals are applied later as a new round, not immediately.

Reminders

Auto send reminders

Enables reminders to participants about the poll. Turning it on shows frequency and audience settings. Email reminders to the participant list to improve turnout: prompt non-respondents to submit, or (if re-voting is allowed) invite respondents to update their ballot. Useful for long-running/living polls and participation-status management (invited/accepted/voted).

Reminder frequency

Interval between reminders, or Manual only for owner-triggered emails. Frequency sets the interval between reminders. Choose Manual only when reminders should be sent only by an owner command.

Target

Who should receive reminders: those who already voted, those who have not, or both. Email reminder audience within the participant list: 'Not voted' - those who have not submitted a ballot; 'Voted' - those who already voted (including re-voting, if enabled and preferences may change); 'Both groups' - everyone. If re-voting is disabled, reminders usually target only 'Not voted'.

Results Visibility

Controls whether participants can see results. 'Public' shows results to anyone who can open the results page; 'Private' shows them to the organizer only. 'Public' makes results visible to participants and anyone with the link. Publishing interim results (especially in long-running/living polls) can create information effects - bandwagon and strategic voting. 'Private' hides results until you publish the protocol/report; trust can be supported by a publication and/or audit procedure (who opens results and when).

Confidential

Poll data will not be sent to external moderation services

When enabled, poll content is checked only by local rule-based filters. No data is sent to external APIs (such as OpenAI Moderation). Use this for sensitive or confidential polls where data must not leave the platform.

Vote history visibility

If results are public, choose whether to show the vote-change history to everyone. 'Private' shows the history only to the poll owner. Available only when results are public and the change log (audit log) is enabled. In 'Private', the log is visible only to the organizer/admin; in 'Public', it is published alongside results to everyone who can access the results page.

Temporary rating button

Show the temporary rating star on voting cards.

Recommended for cognitively demanding polls. It adds a temporary rating button to each candidate card so participants can capture an immediate impression before they sort candidates into the final ranking and submit the ballot. Rated candidates can also be moved to preferences automatically and sorted there by temporary rating. This is especially useful in presentation-based polls, auditions, demos, pitches, or other sessions where voters need a one-glance memory cue later. Temporary ratings are a private memory aid, not the final ballot result. We recommend enabling this in complex polls where participants may struggle to retain their first impression of each candidate while continuing to watch presentations or compare many options. Voters can mark a quick provisional evaluation first, then build the final ranking afterward with a visual cue that is easy to read at a glance across all cards.
